This painting is a heartfelt homage to Janelle Monáe, drawing inspiration from her distinctive black and white fashion style and her meaningful music videos. More profoundly, it reflects on the purpose behind her color choice – a tribute to her working-class parents' uniforms. This aspect of Monáe's persona struck a deep chord with me, highlighting the elegance and significance of the working class.

In this oil paint on canvas, I've depicted an abstract portrayal of Janelle Monáe against a backdrop of striped black and white. The painting employs various techniques to bring this vision to life. Monáe is shown in formal, uniform-like attire, embodying the grace and dignity of the working class. Her hands are raised above her head, forming a symbolic crown, underscoring the nobility and resilience of the Black working class.

This artwork is more than a visual piece; it's a narrative of the unacknowledged yet monumental contributions of the Black community throughout over 400 years of history. It's a testament to the relentless hard work, often with scant recognition or appreciation, that has been pivotal in shaping our society and the world. Despite facing numerous challenges, the Black working class has continued to persevere, hold their heads high, achieve remarkable feats, and break barriers with pride.

In this painting, the Black working class is portrayed not just as a backbone of society, but as true royalty – embodying power, strength, and unwavering spirit. It's a celebration of their enduring legacy and a reminder of the profound impact they have in upholding our society.
