Overview

The LightNote Project is a community-centered art and wellness initiative that uses affirmations to spread light, build self-worth, and foster deep connections across individuals and communities. Rooted in emotional awareness, cultural symbolism, and collective healing, the project centers around sharing affirmations through creative expression—reminding people that light is both within them and around them.

From handcrafted jars to immersive installations, each LightNote activation invites participants to create and exchange words of encouragement—often shared across spaces and even borders. Whether offered through a jar, a bookmark, or an installation of interconnected messages, each LightNote is a reminder that we are stronger together and that our words carry power.

 

Completed Projects

"Light Jar" Workshop with NOMO Foundation – Empowering young people to write messages for themselves and creatively express who they are.

LightNote Exchange Installation – International affirmation exchange through community-created messages between a children's library in Dakar, Senegal, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

"Note to Sis" Installation – Positive notes shared from women to women, honoring connection and feminine strength in the first "Hair Me Out" Exhibition.

Affirmation Jar Workshops – Affirmation jar creation rooted in self-love.


Installation Concept

At the heart of the LightNote Project is the installation of a tread of hair—a public structure where anyone can take or leave an affirmation. These affirmations, handwritten and artfully designed, travel from one person to another, often being relocated to another city or even another country, continuing a ripple of care, connection, and light.

These installations are often created with synthetic hair: braids or locs, symbolizing the strength and beauty of unity. Each strand represents an individual voice—unique on its own, but stronger when locked together. The installation becomes a living community altar, lit by human compassion and artistic expression.
