We are beautifully resilient and have made it through years of obstacles, however, through these years we have learned to cope with our problems and traumas rather than learn to heal them and take care of ourselves. Learning to cope is just learning skills to survive which can, in some cases, lead to codependency of some sort. Self-care isnโ€™t one-and-done, It takes consistency and dedication to yourself. You have to choose yourself repeatedly and prioritize your health, happiness, and overall well-being daily until it becomes a natural habit. Racism and discrimination arenโ€™t changing any time soon and it's our responsibility to make sure we arenโ€™t just serving and coping in pain but healing and living in love. We must continuously seek ways to increase our self-love and peace, within ourselves and the Black community.             • Meditation increases a sense of well-being and studies have shown it to change DNA expression to alter responses to stress with peace.

              • Your environment is extremely important! Having a calming and peaceful space can improve your sense of peace.

                • Make decisions to stand up for something you believe in instead of fighting for something you are against. Activism doesn't mean you should be without peace!
                  Reconnect with Family
                  • Connecting with family/loved ones can be extremely uplifting. Find a family that you can talk to regularly.

                    Make a โ€œYouโ€ day

                    • Take one day a week for yourself and ensure you do what you want. On that day you come first! This is the groundwork for choosing yourself daily!
                      Attend a Retreat
                      • Retreats are intended to help you slow down, reflect, and love/care for yourself. They encourage healthy lifestyle changes and positivity.
                        Volunteer or Donate
                        • Serving others is a great way to fulfill yourself and others. Try donating/volunteering at a Black-owned establishment or anywhere that brings you joy.
                          Release an Old Habit that does not Affirm Your Humanity
                          • Take time to reflect and notice any habits that may be contributing to an unknowing dehumanization of yourself.
                            Become a Plant Parent
                            • Nature is beneficial in more ways than one and studies have shown that when we are in nature we get a nice flow of endorphins. If you're unable to be within nature for whatever reasons, adopt a plant. Being a plant parent can be very therapeutic as well.
                              Take Personal Responsibility
                              • Taking responsibility for whatever roles you may play can be extremely healing. Once you identify your role and acknowledge your fault you can begin to work on yourself.

                              • Books can be transformative getaways! Books can help you enter another world, spark new ideas and expand your knowledge. (Look for self-help books and books that empower you)

                                Identify Negative Self Talk

                                • Identify and acknowledge negative self-talk and stop it right away! Once you do this, think of 3 positive things about yourself.
